Client brief

For this spacious Hammersmith residence, the client’s vision was to create a master bathroom that overflowed with "character." The brief called for a traditionally inspired aesthetic that didn't sacrifice modern convenience. Key requirements included the integration of a standout focal piece and a layout that prioritised the room's significant natural light, resulting in a "transitional" design that feels both nostalgic and fresh.

The process

To bridge the gap between classic and contemporary, our designer utilised a "tonal-traditional" approach. By selecting a period-style bathtub in a bold, matte olive finish, we injected a modern colour story into a classic silhouette. The process focused heavily on "light-mapping"; we arranged the layout to ensure the large window remained the room's heart, allowing natural light to flow seamlessly across the floor and highlight the textures of the stone-effect tiling. This strategic positioning ensures the room feels expansive and airy from morning to night.

What we did

Statement Colour Anchor: Specified the BC Designs Elmstead freestanding bathtub with a bespoke olive coating, adding a layer of deep personality and a unique focal point to the room.

Textured Shower Backdrop: Utilised premium Apavisa wall tiles within the spacious walk-in shower enclosure, chosen to complement the olive tones of the bath and add architectural depth.

Traditional Practicality: Integrated a Burlington wall-mounted basin and matching cupboards, providing "heaps of practicality" and essential storage while maintaining a classic British aesthetic.

Natural Light Optimisation: Positioned the primary fixtures to maximise the impact of the large window, using the natural light to enhance the room's sense of space and bring out the best in every finish.

Transitional Design Language: Successfully merged a classic "look and feel" with high-performance modern fixtures, ensuring the bathroom serves as a timeless investment for the client.

Spacious Walk-In Functionality: Engineered a generous showering zone that offers a minimalist, contemporary experience within a traditionally styled environment.
