It goes without saying that a well-planned and beautiful bathroom can help ensure a good start to the day and allows us to wind down and relax in the evening. The key is to create a warm and uplifting ambience in your bathroom, which increases comfort and transforms the room into the ultimate place for relaxation. We’ve put together 6 tips for you to make your bathroom a place where you feel good.

1. Set the scene with lighting

Natural light can often be hard to come by in bathrooms, so pre-planning your bathroom lighting is an important step that shouldn’t be overlooked. To achieve a comfortable balance of practical lighting and mood lighting, consider a mix of ceiling downlights, pendant lights and LED marker lights or lighting strips.

The Faeber Glow illuminated mirrors (example on the left) offer subtle lighting behind the mirror that creates a halo effect, whereas the Faeber Edge illuminated mirror cabinets (example on the right) offer a LED lighting strip all around the cabinet that allows for practical task lighting as well as mood lighting when changing the temperature from cool to warm.

If you have the luxury of natural light entering your bathroom through a window or skylight then this should be embraced as it can truly brighten your space up. You can also boost natural lighting with mirrors and light, reflective surfaces.

2. Boost the mood with candles
It’s no surprise that candles are a popular choice in most bathrooms. They immediately enhance the mood of any space with a warming ambience and allow you to relax after a long day. Certain aromas in particular, such as bergamot and lavender, are known to help lift your mood and relieve stress, so scented candles with essential oils are an excellent choice when creating your own spa-like bathroom.

Want a good night’s sleep? Try a lavender scented candle. Looking to boost feelings of joy & positivity? Try a lime and basil combo. Want to alleviate a headache or migraine? Try a peppermint or spearmint scented candle. Candles really are a simple and inexpensive way to create a soothing atmosphere in your bathroom with added benefits.

3. Warm up the room
As winter is approaching, many of us are thinking about how we can warm up our homes while saving energy at the same time. While a heated towel rail is often a must in a bathroom as they offer more than just warm and cosy towels, you can consider an electric or dual fuel towel rail to ensure you’re in complete control of when this is turned on and off. The dual fuel function will allow you to use the towel radiator with the rest of your central heating or use the electric element when you don’t want to turn on the central heating (this can also be very useful during the summer months).

Adding electric underfloor heating is another way to bring warmth to your room. The Thermosphere electric underfloor heating allows you to program exactly when you want this turned on and off, keeping you in control of the electricity cost.

4. Take inspiration from nature
Natural elements and materials will help create a feeling of warmth in your bathroom and bring a sense of serenity and calm. Add some plants for an inherently earthy and natural feel, and consider wood-effect or stone-effect textures and neutral, earthy colours to create a warm, inviting and stylish space.

5. Consider soft blues and greens
Bathroom colour schemes are crucial for getting the right look, feel and design. Lighter colours such as white, beige and light grey can help make a bathroom appear larger and brighter while darker colours can add depth and create a bold statement. Earthy and warm neutral colours add a sense of tranquillity and help create a warm and uplifting ambience in your bathroom. However, if you don't want to stick to neutrals you can consider soft blues and greens to add a splash of colour while keeping a calm and soothing environment.

Remember that colours are a very personal choice and you shouldn’t be afraid to experiment to find what’s right for you and your space.
