When it came to the overall aesthetics of the project Bobby was very open to ideas, his main criteria was to keep the space feeling bright, modern and introduce some natural textures. Which we tackled by opting for AVA brushed black finishes for tapware contrasting off stone and wood effect wall panels. Overall creating a spa-like space in an unconventional setting.Our collaboration with Bobby (@one.life.truck.it) began with a very specific functional requirement for this space: a comfortable, stylish shower room that could be effortlessly divided into two smaller sections by simply reconfiguring the doors while the van is in transit.
The room's simple, narrow rectangular shape featured two adjacent, central doors. When opened, these doors split the space, creating two smaller rooms and a distinct walkway to the rest of the van. This layout naturally led to our strategy of designating one section as the dedicated shower space and the other as the toilet area.
For the toilet space, we opted for a simple, clean design, incorporating a back-to-wall compostable toilet built into a custom unit that also provides generous storage. Moving to the shower area, we focused on maximising the available space to ensure a comfortable experience, carefully navigating the room's constraints, such as reduced head height.
Bobby was very open to aesthetic suggestions, with his primary criteria being a bright, modern feel incorporating natural textures. We achieved this by choosing AVA brushed black finishes for the tapware, which sharply contrasts with the stone and wood-effect wall panels. The overall result is a spa-like retreat within a truly unconventional setting.

"This project presented a unique opportunity to challenge my design skills, as the space was unconventional compared to typical bathroom projects.
The project involved an old army truck, which Bobby, was converting into a home on wheels for his travels around the world.
The key objectives were to create an aesthetically pleasing yet highly functional space for Bobby and his partner. The main differences from a typical bathroom were the significantly smaller space and reduced head height.
Therefore, the design approach required strategic layout planning and careful selection of product scale and specifications. Creating a comfortable, daily-use shower area was vital. For this, we chose a Bette steel enamel tray and a bespoke shower door, ensuring both optimal functionality and quality.
For the overall aesthetic, Bobby wanted to blend earthy tones with modern finishes. To achieve this, we opted for wood-effect wall panels as an accent wall, paired with stone-effect panels throughout the rest of the space. This provided a warm, earthy feel without overpowering the area or making it appear dark. We then contrasted these with AVA brushed black tapware and finishes, creating a bold balance between modern and contemporary design."
